Job Title : Medical Assistant
Note : Needs Family Practice or Pediatric experience. Professionalism and Customer Service skills are a MUST.
Patient Care :
1. Conduct initial-response screening following approved protocols.
2. Accompany patients to rooms and prepare them for examination, procedure, and treatment.
3. Record vital signs in the electronic health record (EHR).
4. Obtain and document patient history using critical thinking skills.
5. Prepare for, set up, and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments according to protocols.
6. Administer and document oral and parenteral medications, and immunizations as ordered, maintaining accurate records.
7. Document care provided during patient visits in EHR.
8. Recognize and respond to emergencies.
9. Monitor and respond to patient requests via telephone, In Basket messages, and MyChart within identified time frames.
10. Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in EHR for provider sign-off.
11. Provide after-visit instructions to patients and / or caregivers as directed by the provider.
12. Enter medication refill orders per protocol.

Diagnostic :
1. Collect and process specimens.
2. Perform CLIA-waived tests.
3. Conduct electrocardiography, respiratory, and other tests based on departmental needs.
4. Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
Consultation :
1. Serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff regarding problems or complaints.
2. Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments.
3. Schedule outpatient procedures.
4. Apply third-party and managed care policies, procedures, and guidelines.
5. Obtain insurance pre-authorizations.
6. Enter referrals for provider sign-off.
Quality Assurance :
1. Participate in Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement Programs.
2. Practice Standard Precautions, including hand washing and disposal of biohazardous materials.
3. Apply principles of aseptic and sterile technique.
4. Clean instruments and equipment per policies and procedures.
5. Comply with all safety standards.
6. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards regarding practice, environment, and documentation.
Instruction :
1. Act as a healthcare advocate to meet individual needs.
2. Educate patients on office policies and procedures.
3. Educate patients within the scope of practice and as directed by the supervising physician in health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment plan compliance.
4. Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention to meet individual patient needs.
Other :
1. Uphold goals, policies, procedures, and expectations of the healthcare system.
2. Support the mission, vision, and values of the healthcare system.
3. Maintain examination / treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment.
4. Maintain core and applicable specialty competencies.
5. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Education : Required :
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care preferred.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
- EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.
- Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
Additional Requirements :
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hours minimum), OR
- Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five years, OR
- Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five years of experience in clinical medical assisting, OR
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), OR
- Licensed Paramedic / Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within five years, OR
- Military-trained medical personnel with at least one year of clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five years.
Certifications / Licenses :
- Current BLS certification upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.
- Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions :
- Work in a patient care setting with possible exposure to infectious diseases.
- Manual dexterity is required for the performance of duties.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, and potentially lift patients and / or equipment.
Location : Clinton Township, Michigan
Shift : Hours & shifts vary Currently office hours :
- Monday & Tuesday : 7 : 00 AM - 8 : 00 PM, Wednesday & Thursday : 7 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM, Friday : 7 : 00 AM - 4 : 00 PM, Every Other Saturday : 7 : 00 AM - 11 : 00 AM
- Employees rotate shifts working 8.5-hour days where they will open on some days and close on others.
- One late night shift is required to be worked from 11 : 30 am until 8 pm.
Pay Range :
- $18-20 per hour
- Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
