About the role

The Cyber Underwriting Leader, Financial Institutions for Financial Lines, will be based in New York and report to the Head of Financial Institutions, Tom Neufeld.

This role will support the development and execution of the strategies for the FI Cyber portfolio across the country and coordinate the potential coverage overlaps in the Fidelity and E&O portfolios.

The interplay between these coverages is quite complicated and presents aggregation issues for AIG (which is the main reason why this position sits inside the FI group).

The FI Cyber portfolio is in growth mode and increased in size from YE2020 at $36.7mm to over $60mm at present. This includes nearly 300 accounts, over half of which buy primary policies from AIG.

How you will create an impact

Monitor the performance of all products in the P&L with an emphasis on growing the FI Cyber portfolio.

Manage the new business pipeline by holding standing new business target meetings for both the CAP and NAP teams. Helps both teams prioritize targets with the highest opportunity to bind and assists underwriters in getting deals across the finish line.

Drive consistent underwriting best practices and guidelines, in accordance with underwriting guidelines, to ensure rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring adequacy

Deliver profitable growth through effective risk selection; execute on rate, coverage and limits management strategies; drive targeted correction or remediation strategies as needed

Collaborate with the Product Head to develop and execute on opportunistic growth strategies for high margin product lines

Engage in regional underwriting reviews of renewals in key segments at least 90-120 days in advance of effective date

Serve as a key referral point for field underwriting staff within stated authority; apply knowledge of market and industry to provide guidance on complex risks, exposures, and decisions

Ensure the proper execution of underwriting guidelines and practices across the product line

Support regional field underwriting staff through training and development

Promote the product line by delivering a consistent message to key broker partners and clients

External Visibility Attending conferences and broker events to position AIG as the leading market in FI Cyber

Promote a healthy risk culture through staff meetings, trainings, and promotion of regular risk reporting

Work collaboratively with all Financial Lines Product Heads, Regional Executives, the Chief Underwriting Office and Actuarial, Legal and Claims departments

Foster a culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity, equity and inclusion.

Serve as a role model to all colleagues, leading by example as a senior member of the team and well-recognized brand

Training will lead formal training provided to FI underwriters by holding 3-5 monthly training sessions per month to increase underwriter acumen of the Cyber product

Manage a team of underwriters.

What you'll need to succeed

Proven underwriting experience in Cyber Underwriting and a successful record of selling products to clients.

Deep technical expertise.

Proven people management skills and a record of developing more junior colleagues.

Strong communication, networking, and relationship building skills.

Good organizational and time management skills.

Customer and sales orientated behaviors : motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable.

The base salary range for this position is $195,000 - $245,000, and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
