Description : JOB SUMMARY

The Pre-Op Intake RN is a vital member of the surgical services team, responsible for conducting pre-operative phone assessments with patients scheduled for surgical procedures. This role ensures patients are well-informed about pre-operative instructions and that comprehensive health information is collected to support safe and effective surgical care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Patient Education :

Contact patients before their scheduled procedures to provide detailed pre-operative instructions.
Educate patients on fasting requirements, medication adjustments, hygiene protocols, and arrival logistics.

Health Assessment :

Collect and document patient medical history, including current medications and supplements. past medical conditions, previous surgical history, allergies, social habits (e.g., smoking, alcohol use)

Communication & Coordination :

Identify and escalate any concerns or discrepancies to the appropriate provider or surgical team.

Collaborate with anesthesia and surgical staff to ensure all necessary information is available before the procedure.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Compliance & Safety :

Ensure all pre-op protocols are followed per hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Promote patient safety and readiness for surgery through thorough assessment and education.

Requirements :

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS

Current RN license in the state of Arkansas (or compact state). BLS certification required. Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in surgical services, pre-op, or perioperative care. Experience with patient education and telephone triage preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a full-time position in the Central Arkansas area to include Little Rock, Conway, and our Hot Springs ASC, and may require some travel.

Monday through Friday, flexible hours based on surgical schedule needs. Remote or on-site options may be available depending on organizational policy. Occasional overtime may be required. The position operates in a professional office environment, and the incumbent, in the course of performing this position, spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, driving, seeing (such as close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusted focus), sitting, walking, standing, and reaching. The incumbent may operate any or all of the following standard office equipment, including but not limited to a multi-line telephone system, postage meter, facsimile machines, calculator, photocopy machine, computer / printer, and coffee maker. The incumbent may operate medical equipment. The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
