GARDENER / GARDEN EDUCATOR

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Part-Time Gardener / Garden Educator to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Gardener for part of our Allie’s Place Culinary Center for Education & Employment Program located in the Soundview area of Bronx.

As a Gardener, you will play a pivotal role in helping to supply (when needed) our culinary programming with fresh produce and to be a rich educational resource for the families with children who reside at Allie’s Place Family Residence.

This exciting and creative position blends operation and maintenance of our garden with education for both children and adults.

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep.

Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community.

Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Overall maintenance of garden : soil maintenance, pest control, netting, and watering, etc.
• Seeding, planting, and harvesting
• Collection of produce, and proper storage in our classroom kitchen

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead hands-on gardening workshops for children and adults.
• Ability to impart knowledge regarding soil composition and maintenance, seasonality, harvesting, etc.

SALARY :

$17.85 Per Hour / 20 Hours Per Week

$18,564 Annually
