General Information : nFloating within TG to all ICUs, PCU / CCUs, ED holding n1-year minimum ICU experience nWill take first-time travelers with strong ICU and previous float pool experience nPatient Types Travelers Expected to Care For : nCovid Patients nNeuro, Trauma, Medical, Surgical nSepsis, pneumonia, DKA, DTs, Multi-system failure, spinal injuries, pre / post cath patients (radial approach), general surgery patients, respiratory compromise, CHF, COPD, GSW, stabbings, MVA, strokes, TBI, various back surgeries nCVICU n24h - Post-op CABG(10 / wk.
Esophagectomy, TAVR (3 / wk.), AAA repair, Thoracic and Vascular surgeries, Post arrest nTravelers Not Expected to Care for : nFresh CABG / TAVR, EVDs, post TPA, any devices (ECMO, IABP, Impella, hypothermia protocol) nPatient Ratios : nICU : 1 : 2 nPCU / ACC / CCU : 1 : 4 nER Holding Same ratio based on patient’s level of care nCertifications : nACLS, BLS, NIHSS nSkills required : nCardiac rhythm interpretation, vent and bipap management, invasive line management, ostomy, general drains, traches, chest tubes, lumbar drains, IV medication titration.
nSupport on the Unit : nCharge Nurse nHospitalist, RT and Intensivist 24 / 7 nCardiologist on call 24 / 7 for CVICU & CCU & Cardiac Short Stay nCharting System : nEpic Experience IS REQUIRED nScheduling : nSchedule is typically made for 3-weeks at a time, which comes out 7-10 days prior nEvery other weekend nCould work back to back weekends (rare) nNo self- scheduling, no guarantee of patterned schedule nTime off : Manager Approval for more than 5 days.
nFloating : nNeuro / Trauma / Medical / Cardiac ICU nCCU (cardiac step down) nPCU / ACC nED Holding nMed Surg Units nAny open surge areas for above units nTraveler could float to Allenmore Hospital as needed, around 2.
5 miles away. This is not common but is a possibility. Travelers should be notified in advance if they are needed at Allenmore.
nOrientation : n1 day general hospital orientation n1 day of unit orientation (12 hours) on ICU unit n1 day of 12 hours on like units n Traveler Telemetry Competency Required nRequired to be completed and passed prior to start.
