Job Summary : The Physician Assistant provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients in collaboration with a licensed physician and within the scope of practice of the collaborating physician and in compliance with the Nebraska Physician Assistance Practice Act.
Performs a variety of specialized and professional physician assistant duties requiring knowledge of emergency patient assessment and management. Work will rotate through all areas of the Hospital with emphases on emergency department (ED), Observation (OBS), and Acute / Swing Bed.
Schedule : This position is 24-hour shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Works 24-hour shifts. One of three Physician Assistants covering Emergency Department / and as a Hospitalist 24 / 7 / 365.
- Direct admissions, daily rounding, progress notes and discharges on Acute, observation and swing bed patients.
- Performs appropriate and accurate emergency medicine specific history and physical examination and initiate treatment plans including laboratory and radiograph ordering, reviewing the findings with the physician and completing treatment of the patient.
- Performs appropriate emergency procedures.
- Presents Morbidity + Morality cases when requested by collaborating physician.
- Performs patient call backs and administrative tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Assess, treat and transfer trauma patients.
Qualifications and Education :
Graduate of an Accreditation Review Commission (ARC) Physician Assistant program or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.Valid Nebraska State License as a Physician Assistant in Medicine or ability to obtain license prior to hire.Valid Certification of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life SupportValid Nebraska Controlled Substances License OR have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.Valid licensure with the Federal DEA OR the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.Prior emergency department experience within the past 24 months either as an employed PA in an ED or as an ED rotation as part of physician assistant training program.Thorough understanding of Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).Must be able to demonstrate the following techniques :Interpret ECGs independently and immediately identify life threatening changesInterpret Radiographs independentlyManagement of fractures and dislocations with application of appropriate splintWound care management including suturingIncision and drainage of abscessesGynecologic examinationVeno-puncture and arterial punctureKnowledge, skills and other qualifications :
