Job Summary

Texas Health Action (THA) is a community-informed non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to culturally affirming, quality health services in a safe and supportive environment, with an expertise in serving LGBTQIA+ people and those impacted by HIV.

The Outreach and Testing teams provide safe, confidential, HIV and STI testing in their local communities. This position is responsible for providing support to our Dallas and San Antonio Outreach & Testing teams and requires at least 25% travel between cities as needed.

This position is hybrid in that some time will be remote, and some time will be spent onsite. This position will have both direct and indirect managerial responsibilities and reports to the Director of Community Health.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring 40 hours a week with some night and weekend hours.

What you would do :

  • Assure staff quality and performance results by coaching, counseling, mentoring, planning, monitoring, and evaluating job performance.
  • Assist leadership with oversight of day-to-day tasks related to HIV / STI testing such as chart audits and staff observations as well as monitoring inventory, coordination of testing events, training, and other related activities.
  • Assist in assessing the need to refer clients to medical providers and support services, linking clients to appropriate community resources, and conducting follow-up activities.
  • Assist program staff with data entry, quality assurance, and preparing data for grant reports.
  • Provide culturally competent, anonymous, and confidential HIV and STI testing, as needed.
  • Engage with community at outreach events around HIV and STI testing and prevention.
  • Provide education to patients and groups about HIV and STI testing and prevention.
  • Coordinate and support THA’s regular testing activities on-site and at community-based events in Dallas and San Antonio
  • Utilize and promote infection control measures and universal precautions to maintain high quality of health and safety during outreach events.
  • Oversee the day-to-day tasks related to HIV and STI testing.
  • Monitor inventory of HIV and STI supplies, outreach supplies and supply storage spaces, and other related activities.
  • Ensure programmatic training requirements are completed.
  • Participate in special testing events in community settings, public sex environments, online, as well as other venues to reach populations of focus including : MSM, Spanish-speaking communities, communities of color, transgender and gender non-binary individuals, sex workers, individuals without a home, and persons who inject drugs to recruit into HIV and STI prevention programs and services.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, support, and training to staff.
  • Participate and / or lead in regular staff meetings, supervision meetings, and other meetings as needed.
  • Assist with coverage in other cities (Austin), as circumstances require.

Compensation

Based on job duties and requirements, this position is placed in salary band 42 with an annual salary range of $50,000 to $58,000 per year.

Initial placement within this range will be based on hired candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.

Requirements

Your previous work life and education must include :

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Phlebotomy certification (may complete within first month of hire).
  • Two years or more of direct experience in HIV testing and / or PrEP and PEP services.
  • Five or more year of direct experience in a public health.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and safety of Protected Health Information under HIPAA standards.
  • Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.

Your previous work life and education would ideally include :

  • Five years or more of direct experience in HIV testing and / or PrEP and PEP services.
  • Previous experience with development and oversight of policies and procedures, preferably in a clinical or medical setting, including community-based HIV testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree related to a human services field, such as social work, psychology, counseling, or public health.
  • High level of comfort in discussing issues related to substance use, harm reduction, homelessness, mental health, gender care and LGBTQ communities.
  • Familiarity and experience using a trauma-informed approach to working with individuals.
  • Certification in HIV Prevention or a similar course.
  • Bi-lingual (English / Spanish)
