Location : South Mountain

Status : Full-Time

FLSA : Hourly

Schedule : Wednesday-Saturday, 7 : 00am-6 : 00pm

Reports To : Senior Clinic Manager and Clinic Manager

Supervises : N / A

A Day in the Life :

The Lead Veterinary Technician's primary goal is to assist in the oversight of the veterinary technician team, ensuring compassionate care of every animal that enters the hospital.

The Lead technician will train staff, ensure all hospital policies and procedures are executed, and lead by example while working side-by-side with fellow staff performing all general technician duties.

Job Requirements :

  • High school diploma / GED
  • CVT or CVMP certification preferred.
  • 2 years of experience as a Lead Technician or supervisory position required.
  • 1 year of experience working in a high-volume spay neuter clinic
  • 1 year of experience in a general practice veterinary clinic preferred.
  • Must be proficient in pet anesthesiology.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and customer service skills required.
  • Train, supervise, and assist the Veterinary Technicians in their performance of a variety of technical duties.
  • Provide technicians with feedback and coaching, work with Manager and Supervisor on additional training needs.
  • Provide excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 40 cats and / or dogs per day.
  • Administer injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture and administer fluids as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and postoperative phases.

Physical Demands / Work Environment :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes;

occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment.
