Individual and Family Shelters in Greenfield and Pittsfield

Fulltime Position.

Starting salary $72,000

It is important to note that this position will be responsible for Shelters in both Pittsfield and Greenfield, therefore, travel to both locations is a must*

Position Summary :

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as the Director of Operations for our network of homeless shelters in Berkshire and Franklin counties.

As the Director of Operations, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day functioning of our shelters, ensuring the highest level of care and support for individuals experiencing homelessness, our staff, and our partners.

This position requires a strategic leader with strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Reports to Senior Director for Shelter & Housing.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Provides leadership and supervision to shelter managers and staff, ensuring a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for shelter staff and guests.
  • Ensures fidelity to the scope of services per program contract.
  • Works with Senior Director of Operations and Vice President of Community Programs to implement strategic plans for the efficient operation and continuous improvement of homeless services.
  • Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, making recommendations for enhancements or changes as needed.
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation.
  • Prepares and submits regular reports on shelter operations, outcomes, and challenges to executive leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive workplace culture, promoting professional development and growth opportunities for shelter staff.
  • Attends internal and external stakeholder meetings as directed.
  • Recruits, trains, and supports staff alongside Senior Director.
  • Assists shelter teams as needed in their efforts to re-house shelter guests.
  • Investigates guest grievances and presents recommendations to Senior Director of Operations.
  • On-call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3 years experience in operations management / supervision of teams preferred.
  • Understanding of issues related to homelessness, poverty, and social justice.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and community partners.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet program needs.
  • Ability to travel throughout Western Mass region.
