Job Summary
Safety Specialists help develop and execute the safety component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements.
The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility.
Major Responsibilities :
- Assists in integrating safety and health requirements into project planning and construction.
- Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance to other project groups regarding risk assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution.
- Identifies regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
- Provides technical guidance for safety studies, risk and hazard assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
- Helps develop and implement safety and health communication and awareness measures involving training presentations, flyers, posters, signage, and other communication and training media.
- Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of safety-related incidents. Assists in identifying stakeholders and resolving their concerns.
- Provides safety input to other project groups, so that ES&H requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, procurement, and subcontracts.
- Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors / subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.
- Conducts inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
- Assists in tracking ES&H performance and trends and preparing reports.
- Supports other ES&H team members and tasks associated with all three ES&H disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements :
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree (or equivalent), or a Master of Science (MS) degree, in Occupational Safety or Safety Management from an accredited university or college.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing abilities.
- Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Technical knowledge and experience related to occupational safety and health.
- Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
- Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
- Experience training and teaching others.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 Management System standards.
