Overview

Plenitud has been a leader in offering environmental educational services to farmers, students, and others since 2010. We work to meet increased demand for education in long-term solutions such as the construction of emergency shelters, rainwater harvesting systems, school gardens, agroecology, and improving health. AmeriCorps State members focus on disaster service, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures. Through the Plenitud PR agroecology program we train new young farmers and community members in sustainable agriculture techniques to improve food security and reduce environmental damage. The program also serves as a demonstration and educational model for young professionals and farmers across the western region of Puerto Rico. Our disaster services demonstrate and educate sustainable practices such as agroecological food production, rainwater harvesting, and bioconstruction at the educational farm and the Las Marias Community Center & Resiliency Hub. We promote healthy futures by sharing recipes and educational materials to encourage local produce consumption. We also run Amo mis Abus, providing consistent care to vulnerable elders in Las Marias, including ready-to-eat healthy meals, companionship visits, and coordination of home care brigadas."

Member Duties

The Bioconstruction and Resiliency Coordinator will support the organization\'s disaster preparedness and training programs at the Plenitud PR Center for Sustainable Living and the satellite Las Marias Community Center & Resiliency Hub. Disaster services include research, demonstration, and training in :

• Rainwater harvesting and emergency water filtration
• Solar power and off-grid systems
• Bio-construction, including affordable housing using SuperAdobe and other sustainable building systems with reduced environmental footprint and resilience to hurricanes, fires, floods, and earthquakes
