Travel Nurse RN - PCU in Rapid City, SD

5 years preferred License : Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license Certifications : BLS, ACLS for PCU / Tele RNs;
BLS required for LPN; ACLS preferred for LPN Must-Have : Nursing education approved by a board of nursing Job Description : Care for adults with a variety of diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM, DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremors.
- Maintain patient ratios of RN : PCU / Tele 1 : 4; Med / Surg 1 : 5 and CNA 1 : 8.- Required skills for PCU RN include cardiac and vasoactive drip titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, blood product administration, drain / tube management, catheter insertion / management, insulin drips, continuous bladder irrigation, and chest tube maintenance.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication, thorough physical assessments, strong clinical judgment, professional bedside manner, and the ability to work as a team player with a positive attitude and adaptability.
- Comfortability working alongside an LPN in a team nursing model, where both take their own patient loads with potential task swapping.
- Support on the unit from a charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, resource nurse as staffing allows, and 24 / 7 respiratory and hospitalist support.
- Use of Epic charting system, Alaris, and Omnicell.- Floating as needed within scope of practice to Adult Inpatient Units.
Other Details : Two days of orientation with in-class / online education and two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor.- Weekend rotation of every other or 50% weekends per 4-week schedule.
- Holiday expectations require working every other holiday during the contract timeframe.- Approval of time off up to 7 days, with extension of contract if unable to work a full week to accommodate a 13-week contract.
- Monthly audits for Pre / Post Pain Scoring, with required 90% compliance.- Scrub Color : Navy Blue for RNs, Cement / Light Grey for CNAs.
