1. POSITION DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES :
a. Registered Nurse (RN) : TheRN will utilize their broadbased clinical knowledge to effectivelyassess implement health promotion and prevention interventionsmanage acute and chronic illness states assist patients in theattainment of optimal levels of functioning rehabilitation evaluatepatient response to actual or potential health problems and providesupportive measures for the dying patient and their significantothers.
Nursing care shall be performed in accordance with theAmerican Nursing Associations Standards of Care and Standards ofProfessional Performance and within the individual nurses scope oflicense.
The VA Nurse Manager(s) or appropriate nursing leadershipdelegate (i.e. Assistant Nurse Manager) will provide the RN withclinical oversight during their tour of duty.
More specific dutiesand responsibilities of the Registered Nurse are describedbelow.
i. Maintain patient confidentiality and asafe patient care environment including familiarity withrequirements such as medication administration patient / familyeducation discharge process hazardous waste disposal etc.
asdefined by The Joint Commission and all other VA regulatorybodies.
ii. Provide patientcentered care byperforming the following tasks :
assess thehealth care needs of the patient and maintain or develop a plan ofcare to meet interdisciplinary goals
assess andact on significant changes in the patients healthcondition
carry out the plan of care byperforming assigning delegated tasks
collectand document pertinent data into the electronic patient medicalrecord
communicates and treats all patientsand / or families in a courteous tactful and respectfulmanner
identify and act on predictable needs ofthe patient
meet the health care needs ofpatient by assessing and assisting the patient to meet expressedneeds meet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and / orfamilies
prioritize and complete tasks withinthe RNs assigned shift
notify assignedphysician of any changes in condition and update patient careplans
report incidents of verbal or physicalabuse immediately to the Nurse Manager of the unit they areassigned; or designated offshift nursing leadership
perform headtotoe assessment

care of PICC lines
administer medication including IVs
coordinateand participate in admission transfer and discharge ofpatient
measure vital signs including Pain (the5th Vital Sign) pulse oximetry etc.
