Senior Security Data Analyst

Our Cybersecurity team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Security Analyst to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and executing comprehensive data security strategies to safeguard our organization's sensitive information and systems.

This role requires a deep understanding of data security best practices, strong analytical abilities, and the ability to lead and mentor junior team members.

This position is located in Washington, DC and offers a hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite, 2 days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Data Security Strategy : Develop, implement, and continuously enhance data security strategies, policies, and procedures to protect the organization's data assets from internal and external threats.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation : Conduct regular assessments of data security risks, vulnerabilities, and potential impacts.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement mitigation strategies.

Incident Response : Lead and coordinate data security incident response activities, including detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery.

Provide timely and effective communication to stakeholders during incidents.

  • Security Architecture Review : Evaluate existing data security architectures and propose improvements to enhance data protection, privacy, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Data Classification and Encryption : Classify sensitive data and recommend appropriate encryption methods. Oversee the implementation and management of encryption technologies across various data repositories.
  • Access Control and Authentication : Design, implement, and manage access control mechanisms to ensure that only authorized personnel can access sensitive data and systems.

Monitor and audit access logs regularly.

Threat Detection and Prevention : Utilize advanced security tools and techniques to detect and prevent cyber threats, intrusions, and unauthorized activities.

Analyze security logs and alerts to identify potential security breaches.

Security Training and Awareness : Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees about data security best practices, policies, and procedures.

Foster a culture of security awareness throughout the organization.

  • Compliance and Regulations : Stay current with data security regulations, standards, and compliance requirements. Ensure the organization's data security practices align with industry standards and legal obligations.
  • Vendor and Third-Party Risk Management : Evaluate the security posture of third-party vendors and partners that have access to the organization's data.

Collaborate with procurement and legal teams to ensure appropriate security clauses in vendor contracts.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited, not for profit university or college in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field;

Master's degree preferred.

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in data security, with a focus on risk assessment, incident response, and security architecture design.
  • In-depth knowledge of data security frameworks, standards, and best practices (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS).
  • Demonstrated expertise in threat detection and prevention tools, as well as security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of successfully leading and guiding junior security team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance) and familiarity with GDPR, HIPAA, or other relevant regulations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and technologies is advantageous.
