The Senior Safety Specialist plays a critical role in supporting comprehensive safety and occupational health programs . This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and overseeing accident prevention efforts .
With extensive experience in safety program management , you will provide expert guidance to leadership, conduct thorough safety inspections, and lead accident investigations to promote a culture of safety .
This role involves working closely with senior leadership and safety officers to enhance the safety framework and ensure that all safety standards, including OSHA and other relevant guidelines, are met.
You will also contribute to the development of safety policies, training programs, and procedural improvements to mitigate workplace hazards .
Responsibilities :
Safety Program Management : Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
Develop guidelines and make recommendations to improve workplace safety and health.
Safety Inspections & Audits : Conduct thorough safety inspections of facilities, operations, and training ranges. Provide detailed reports on inspection findings and recommend corrective actions.
Accident Investigation & Prevention : Lead accident investigations to determine causes and develop strategies for accident prevention.
Analyze accident trends and propose solutions to mitigate future risks.
Risk Management : Integrate risk management processes into the safety program. Review risk management plans and provide expert advice on hazard identification and mitigation.
Training & Education : Design and deliver safety training programs for safety officers, supervisors, and personnel to ensure proper adherence to safety regulations.
Documentation & Reporting : Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on safety program compliance, accident investigations, and risk management initiatives to senior leadership.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) :
Successful implementation of safety policies resulting in reduced workplace incidents.
Timely and accurate completion of safety inspections and reports.
Compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety standards.
Effective accident investigations leading to actionable prevention strategies.
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certifications : Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent (such as : ASP, GSP, CMIOSH, SMS, ACRC / CP-12) certification required.
OSHA 30-hour General Industry or Construction certification preferred. Additional certifications in risk management or environmental safety highly desirable.
Experience : Minimum of 7-10 years in occupational safety and health , with at least 5 years in a senior safety role .
Experience working in government DOD or military (Army preferred) safety environments required.
Clearance : Must possess or be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
Skills : Strong analytical abilities, excellent communication and leadership skills, and proficiency in accident investigation and risk management techniques.
Work Environment : Ability to conduct on-site inspections and work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors. May require lifting and walking through potentially hazardous areas.
Travel : 25% or less, primarily for site inspections and leadership meetings.
