Role Description

This is an on-site role for an MSP Network Engineer at Benchmark Network Solutions in Durham, NC. The Network Engineer will be responsible for network administration, engineering, troubleshooting, network security, and network design to support client's IT infrastructure as well as other roles listed below :

Systems and Network Support :

  • Collaborate with engineers to implement new systems and network solutions or enhance existing networks
  • Install, configure, and support network equipment, including routers, proxy servers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, servers, and SANs
  • Update network and server equipment to the latest firmware versions
  • Optimize customer environments and network performance
  • Install server and network equipment

Project Lifecycle :

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by completing project tasks accurately and on schedule
  • Provide regular status updates to Project and Account Managers
  • Assist Project and Account Managers with project estimates as required

Customer Service :

  • Address support tickets accurately and promptly, maintaining a positive, customer-first attitude
  • Be available for emergency support requests
  • Collaborate with the operations team to prepare monthly status reports for managed service customers

Project Types :

  • Email and file server upgrades and cloud migrations (Microsoft 365)
  • Application migrations to the cloud (Azure / SharePoint / Teams)
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
  • Storage implementations (SAN, NAS, Cloud)
  • Server cluster deployments and virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V, HCI)
  • Phone system deployments and upgrades (SIP, Cloud PBX, WebEx Calling)
  • Platform infrastructure design and implementation
  • Security, risk intelligence, EDR / MDR solutions
  • Active Directory (on-prem and Azure AD) migrations and upgrades
  • Mobile Device Management
  • Network engineering (routing, firewall, WiFi, switching, SD-WAN)

  • Ability to accurately track and bill time for internal and external customers
  • Proficiency in cloud computing and virtualization
  • Expertise in Microsoft-related technologies : Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, Office 365, Intune, and Hyper-V
  • Experience managing end-user devices (Windows 10 / 11, MacOS), laptops, terminals, and thin clients
  • Knowledge of WAN, LAN, SAN, switches, routers, Wi-Fi, backup software, and architecture
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Meraki, and Fortinet is a plus
  • Experience in an MSP environment is a plus
  • VMWare experience is a plus
  • Linux experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated dedication, work ethic, and commitment
  • Strong technical documentation and written network assessment skills

Qualifications

Technical certifications

  • Experience as a System Administrator or Network Engineer or similar experience
  • A drive to learn new technologies and solutions
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
