The rhetoric and composition division covers history of rhetoric, history of literacy, technical and professional writing, comparative rhetorics, and rhetoric of digital media.

Position Description The English department at Georgia State University invites applications for a full time tenure-track faculty position (2 / 2 teaching load) starting August 2025.

The successful applicant will have an interest in writing program administration and any of the following : rhetoric of social media, writing in non-academic settings, technical writing, comparative rhetorics, rhetoric and under-represented peoples.

Required Experience Required Education Ph.D in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications / Experience Successful candidates will have :

  • Instructor of record for at least one course
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness which might include a teaching portfolio, student evaluations, and / or scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Writing program administration experience
  • Experience from a successful research program
  • Research interests in
  • Rhetoric of social media
  • Writing in non-academic settings
  • Technical writing
  • Comparative rhetorics
  • Rhetoric and under-represented peoples
  • Digital rhetoric

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Successful candidates will have :

  • Experience articulating ethical uses of AI
  • Developed practices of evidenced-based pedagogy and inclusive instruction
