Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, dependability / responsibility and written / oral communications skills are needed.
Detailed laboratory planning and execution are required, but the ability to easily adapt to unforeseen factors is also necessary.
We use a combination of simulators, models, tissue samples, cadavers (mostly animal) and live subjects (mostly animals) in our courses.
Though models and simulators are used as alternatives to cadavers where suitable, our hands-on training courses most commonly use animal cadavers.
Live animals are used for non-invasive procedures such as examination skills, ultrasound, and endoscopy training. Invasive procedures such as minimally-invasive laparoscopy procedures are only performed when beneficial for the animal.
No animals are euthanized as part of our educational program. Skills in live animal patient care are required, but candidates must know that live animal work represents a very small portion of our overall program and the candidates work activities.
