The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences (DEPHS), https : / / med2.uc.edu / eh is seeking exceptional candidates to fill a tenure track position at the Assistant / Associate / Full Professor level in the Division of Environmental Genetics and Molecular Toxicology (EGMT).

Academic rank, tenure, and start-up package will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

The candidate’s research program should focus on mechanisms of toxicity or mode of action of environmental toxicant exposures.

Research should use applicable cellular, animal models, and / or new approach methodologies (NAMs) to target genetic, epigenetic, immunological, signal transduction and / or other pathways, with potential to be clinically relevant.

The candidate is expected to lead an active research program while acquiring and maintaining extramural funding. Preference will be given to those investigating the role(s) of environmental toxicants relevant to the mission of the NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

Research areas complementary or synergistic with ongoing research in the EGMT will be considered a strength.

Essential Functions

Duties will include responsibilities for leading a research laboratory and teaching activities for our students, residents, and fellows.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD, MD / PhD, or equivalent training
  • Extensive knowledge of research in toxicology or a related field of life sciences
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leader or the strong potential to become a leader in the field of environmental and / or molecular toxicology

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Senior and intermediate level applicants : show an established track record of continuous extramural funding and excellence in independent and collaborative hypothesis-driven research, teaching / mentoring, and service in their specialty area
  • Junior level applicants : show evidence of strong independent hypothesis-driven and collaborative research that has the promise to lead to extramural federal funding
  • Preference will be given to experienced candidates who have a track record of funding from NIEHS

Additional Information About The Department

The DEPHS offers graduate programs leading to MS and PhD degrees in EGMT as well as a Master of Public Health (MPH) program with a concentration in Environmental Health.

The appointee will be expected to participate in graduate and post-doctoral training, and provide service to the Department and the UC COM.

New faculty will find an outstanding environment for conducting both independent and interdisciplinary collaborative research within the DEPHS and via interactions with other DEPHS divisions, including Epidemiology, Environmental and Industrial Hygiene, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, MPH, and Occupational Medicine, and with faculty in the UC COM, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and Cincinnati Veteran’s Hospital Medical Center (VAMC).

The appointee will have the opportunity to become a member of the NIH / NCATS funded Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training (CCTST) and the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC).

These Centers and other strong research programs offer a supportive environment for conducting state-of-the-art basic, translational, and clinical research in toxicology.
