For more than 45 years, Sasha Bruce has implemented innovative interventions aimed at ending youth homelessness in the DC region.

Today, the programs in DC and Prince George’s County, MD, reach over 6,500 runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth, and their families.

Position Overview

The Nurse is responsible for providing direct medical services to SBY’s residential programs. Regulations require that all residential programs have a license practical nurse or register nurse on staff to assist with medical needs of residents in the program.

Visits will be primarily in the morning and / or evening as needed. This is a contract position and will be paid $30-$35 per visit to each program.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Distribute medication as needed throughout the residential programs.
• Check the medication log for medication needs as well as examination needs
• Communicate with staff of any concerns and medical needs. Notify Program Manager or Case Manager on duty if there’s less than 2 weeks of medication.
• Call in refills for medication
• Perform the triage medical examination of each youth that enter into the program
• Communicate with staff as the recommendation of further medical attention
• Document all pertinent information in the nurse’s log as well as in the clients individual files
• Document a summary of any and all medical visits in the nurse log
• Medication Management training for new employees and yearly refresher for current employees.
• On-call phone consultation regarding resident issues, not requiring immediate medical attention
• Will report to multiple sites twice a day to complete medical assessments of new youth, and medication administration. General reporting times would be 6am-8am (morning) and 7pm-8 : 30pm for the (evening).

Note : The nurse is not required to work the entire time during each shift; once they have administered medications and completed any needed assessments, they will move on to the next program until they have visited all 4 programs.

Qualifications and Requirements :

• Associate / Bachelors Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in the human service delivery field preferably working with adolescents / young adults.
• Child Protective clearance for DC and MD highly desirable. Must successfully complete all required background clearances and screenings prior to hire and annually
• Health Professional Licensing in Washington, DC
• Proof of Professional Liability Insurance
• Has own transportation
• Complete 40 hours of training annually.
• Strong written and oral communications skills.
