Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Manager will have responsibility for the overall operations of the nursing unit to include financial performance, service quality, clinical outcomes, quality improvement, employee satisfaction, and patient satisfaction.

The Clinical Manager of the Nursing Department will have direct reporting responsibility to a designated Nursing Director.

Develop specific plans of action to resolve conflicts on the unit.

Ensures that staffing levels are appropriate to skill mix and caseload.

Change Leadership : Accurately assesses the resources necessary for change. Takes personal ownership for leading change to enhances the organization.

Proposes, fosters, and implements new techniques, programs, systems, and processes that supports the organization’s mission, vision and goals.

Is an early adopter of new initiatives; willingly volunteers for taskforces, projects, and other activities that support the unit and hospital.

Collaboration and Teamwork : Builds teamwork and participation. Works to bring out the best in everyone. Provides useful, compassionate feedback for growth of the team.

Actively promotes collaborative relationships across the organization.

Actively works with staff to integrate new hires into the unit and facility culture, facilitating the transition into their new role..

Qualifications

EDUCATION & TRAINING : Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.

Master’s Degree in a Nursing Specialty or Nursing Administration strongly preferred. Other Master’s degrees, such as business or healthcare administration will be considered.

EXPERIENCE :

Internal Candidates : At least four (4) years of experience in an acute care setting, preferably an academic medical center.

Prior management experience a plus.

External candidates : At least five (5) years of experience in an acute care setting, preferably an academic medical center.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION :

Kentucky RN License required. Professional certification in either a leadership or clinical specialty area strongly recommended.

If certification not present on hire, it is to be obtained within 3 years of hire into position.
