Job Summary :
Assists the Director of Nursing Services with the functions and activities of the Nursing Department for the provision of quality care of the Residents.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities :
Effectively manages the nursing function throughout the facility in consultation with the Director of Nursing Services.
Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the overall management of the entire Nursing Department to ensure the delivery of quality resident care.
Directly oversees staffing and scheduling of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nurse assistants and support staff to ensure the delivery of quality resident care within budget guidelines.
Ensures staffing is maintained minimally within State and Federal regulations.
Oversees all consultant services to ensure timely visits.
Assists supervisors with the completion of appropriate performance appraisals.
Coordinates the employee relations function within the Nursing Department including the issuance of employee discipline in consultation with the Director of Nursing services and Human Resources.
Ensures effective communication and documentation for the Nursing Department.
Serves as an inter and intra-departmental liaison to ensure communication between all departments.
Ensures communication between all shift supervisors regarding administrative directives, resident concerns and employee issues.
Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and ensures that all are adhered to.
Through the Nursing Supervisors, ensures the proper documentation of all resident information and resident records.
Completes special projects / assignments and other duties as assigned.
Oversees the ordering of all nursing supplies to maintain adequate stock supplies within budgetary parameters.
Monitors and controls all medical equipment and supply usage within the Nursing Department.
Maintains confidentiality in all issues relating to and involving residents and employees.
Ensures that all Local, State and Federal rules and regulations as it relates to resident care within the Nursing Department are adhered to.
Observes all fire safety and related rules and regulations.
Takes any steps required to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, families and staff.
Assumes the role of Director of Nursing Services and / or Administrator in their absence.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development.
Regularly evaluates professional areas of strengths and weaknesses.
Seeks opportunities for professional development.
Develops and plans to meet learning needs and shows progress toward achievement of professional growth goals.
Routinely attends all mandatory education programs and in-services and maintains annual mandatory programs as up-to-date.
Attends Department Head meetings, supervisor meetings and any other management related meetings deemed appropriate by the Director of Nursing Services.
Exhibits teamwork mindset in the daily activities of the job.
Promotes a sense of unity and teamwork in own work area and throughout the facility.
Is responsible team member who is honest and accountable for own actions.
Supports the member of their team.
Acts as a role model by promoting cooperation between departments.
Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements :
BSN degree preferred. Registered Nurse Licensed in CT
CPR certified required
Job Related Experience Requirements :
At least one year of supervisor experience.
State / Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements :
State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License
Ingraham Manor Mandated Educational Requirements :
General orientation at time of hire. Fire / Safety / Infection Control annually. Prevention of Resident Abuse. Other programs as mandated by Ingraham Manor.
Special Requirements : Must possess good observation and communication skills; administrative and supervisor skills.
Physical Requirements :
Must have the ability to perform all aspects of nursing care. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Must be able to endure extended periods of sitting, moderate amounts of walking, standing, twisting, reaching, bending and occasional crouching, crawling and balancing.
Vision, hearing, smell and tactile sensation corrected or accommodated to normal.
Work Environment :
Regular contact with bodily substances and hazardous chemicals; varied lighting; moderate noise; 75 degree temperature.
Cognitive Requirements :
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to use judgment in problem solving.
