From environmental planning, permitting, remediation, and site characterization to chemical data management and hydrogeology, Kleinfelder offers a variety of services designed to provide technically appropriate and cost-effective solutions.

Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder's seeking an Environmental Planner to join our solar permitting team. This role can sit in any of our Northern California offices to include Rancho Cordova (Sacramento), San Jose, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Oakland, Fresno, Concord, and Stockton.

This position is also a hybrid work schedule.

Job Responsibilities :

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following job description :

  • The planner conducts initial screenings on project submissions and works with client to obtain needed information to complete work description.
  • Conduct desktop environmental due diligence reviews to determine agency regulatory authority
  • Coordinate environmental reviews as required by authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) or requested by client, including but not limited to biology, cultural resources, water, air, land acquisition, hazardous materials.
  • Prepare Environmental Assessments / Initial Studies or other required documentation in accordance with California Environment Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Ensure deliverables conform to client standards and expectations, comply with all applicable permits, licenses, and AHJ conditions.
  • Support preparation of status reports, dashboards, summary spreadsheets, forecast spreadsheets, and presentations for use in communication by client environmental staff.
  • Participate in meetings and conference calls as requested.
  • Work includes tracking multiple incoming assignments, coordinating specialist reports, and packaging projects for on-schedule deliveries.
  • Business development, proposal writing for environmental opportunities, coordination with discipline leads, and support in growing the environmental permitting / planning practice in California

Position Requirements :

  • 5+ year of professional environmental planning work experience preferably in solar energy
  • Strong skills in verbal communication of technical issues
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills
  • BS / BA Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or related degree

Preferred Skills / Experience :

  • Proficiency in Google Earth
  • Environmental review processes
  • Proficient in CEQA and NEPA regulatory requirements
  • Prior participation in consultation with agencies
  • Knowledge of special-status wildlife and / or plant species
  • Knowledge of California’s environmental resources
  • Organized and detail-oriented

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.Salary range : $, - ,.
