The Division has an ACGME-accredited Maternal / Fetal Medicine fellowship training program. Currently, there are three MFM fellows.
In addition to being a division chief, the candidate is expected to practice perinatal consults, high-risk obstetric clinics, prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, antepartum rounds, and perinatal calls.
Our newly established "Fetal Care Center" provides a world-class fetal diagnostic and surgery center to the region and nationally.
The University of Arizona College of Medicine has a well-developed research infrastructure to support early and mid-level investigators in their research endeavors.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent clinical MFM specialist, innovative translational researcher, and enthusiastic educator, who can build upon excellence in existing clinical, teaching, and team-based research programs.
They will recognize the importance of developing an engaged and integrated faculty and staff to build and nurture strong cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams, including a newly established Fetal Care Center.
The role will also include actively participating in the recruitment and retention of division faculty.
Appointment rank is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

General Core Duties
- Provide strategic leadership and management of day-to-day operations and set a clear vision and execution of short- and long-term growth, value, and service for the Division with a spirit of innovation, while maintaining appropriate standards of care appropriate and in balance with the multiple, tripartite mission of the University.
- Promote collaboration and consensus-building within and beyond the Division by collaborating with the Dean, Department Head, BUMG management, staff, and other physicians with the goal to improve service and quality to meet institutional goals in research, teaching, advocacy, and scholarly activities.
- Lead an accomplished team of faculty and mentor trainees, drive the development of clinical programs, especially outreach MFM program, and create accountability in the Division.
- Demonstrate transparency, a deep sense of professionalism, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms, an unwavering ethical compass, and strong support for interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration and institutional growth.
- Serve as the role model to advance the Division's active program of comprehensive basic, translational and clinical research, clinical service, research education, and other service activities.
- Represent the Division in the areas of financial performance, faculty career development, research, education, and clinical care, while achieving local, regional, and national visibility and prominence in the subspecialty.
- Represent the department in interdisciplinary conferences, conferring with other services concerning issues related to Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
- Oversee the Division’s faculty peer-review.
- Directly report to the Department Head.
Clinical Core Duties
- Strategically recruit and retain talented faculty to support clinical growth, expand the Division’s research footprint, improve the national reputation of the Division at UArizona and Banner Health, and ensure excellence in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Oversee the administration and participate in the clinical aspects of the division, including the inpatient service and the outpatient clinics.
- Provide direct patient care in the inpatient setting as a licensed and fully credentialed provider as a member of BUMG.
- Oversight of the members of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine ensuring adequate weekday and call coverage and the delivery of timely, high-quality clinical care.
- Liaise with other clinical and / or basic science departments to foster an integrated teaching environment for the College.
- Oversee faculty peer-review.
Research Core Duties
- Develop and execute a high-impact research agenda to advance the Division’s active program of comprehensive basic, translational, and clinical research, clinical service, research education, and other service activities.
- Foster, support, and expand research creativity and productivity within the department, across the College and UAHS, and with the College’s key partners.
- Ensure that the scope and focus of research performed within the Division is consistent with the mission and strategic direction of UA COM-T.
- Ensure that faculty minimum sponsored funding expectations are met.
Education Core Duties
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs and other educational offices at the College to ensure the department and Division faculty are advancing the mission of the medical student, graduate student, and graduate medical education teaching programs.
- Provide teaching instruction for the Residency, Fellowship and Medical Student educational programs by preparing and administering lectures and reviewing cases.
- Ensure the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education programs in the Division.
- Ensure the participation of Division members in the Education mission, including clinical and didactic teaching as well as mentorship (career guidance and scholarly projects) with learners.
- Representation from each Division in Departmental education committees and learner recruitment is expected.
- Support continuing professional development / medical education for faculty and staff.
- Maintain program accreditation, ensuring that the service meets or exceeds local and national standards of outcome performance.
Financial / Operational Core Duties
- Responsible for ensuring the fiscal accountability and sustainability of the Division by serving as a member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s finance committee.
- Oversee the financial status of the Division, including annual budget development with Department
- Administration, monitoring adherence to budget in all areas, including clinical and research income and expenditures.
- Ensure effective and efficient operation of the division.
- Adjust expenditures and staffing as needed to address changes in resources.
- Oversee the effective utilization of divisional space.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Qualified candidates must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
- The candidate must also be eligible for a University of Arizona appointment at the Associate or Professor rank.
- If the individual selected for employment does not currently hold a faculty title with The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson, they will be required to obtain faculty status.
This will include obtaining letters of recommendation and review by the appropriate College review committee.
