*Senior Electrician
Job Description
Under general supervision, installs, maintains, inspects, repairs, troubleshoots, and tests complex electrical equipment and electrical systems.
Determines problems, makes a decision to repair or replace, and discusses with supervisor.
Duties :
- Installs, inspects, maintains, tests and repairs all complex electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Troubleshoots complex electrical motors and controls, elevators, electric wiring, lights, circuits and various other electrical equipment to identify hazards, defects, or the need to repair, adjust, or replace and to ensure compliance with code.
- Discusses costs of repairs or replacement with supervisor.
- May requisition materials for work orders.
- May assist the supervisor in establishing proper materials inventory.
- Performs periodic, preventive maintenance inspections at campus facilities.
- Tests emergency generators to ensure they function properly in an emergency.
- Drives and operates lift and pole trucks abiding by all safety procedures.
- Participates in training and educational activities.
- May train other electricians on procedures and operating equipment.
- Continues to stay abreast of changing technologies, procedures, and products by reading trade journals, operating manuals, and attending workshops and seminars.
- May remove ice and snow from sidewalks, streets, and parking areas using hand tools and / or heavy equipment.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position to include assisting any skilled trade.
Job Requirements
Required Education : High School Diploma or GED or Trade School Certification AND :
24 months electrical experience
Certifications / Licenses :
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date
- Must hold a current electrical journeyman's license with the State of Oklahoma
Skills :
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used to repair or maintain electrical equipment or systems
- Advanced knowledge of safety rules and regulations
- Advanced knowledge of electrical codes
- Ability to determine problems or when and what kind of maintenance is needed, and discuss with supervisor
- Ability to read schematics, blue prints, and drawings
Working Conditions :
Physical : Ability to exert strength when aiding in setting power poles and guy wires. Lifting heavy objects (minimum seventy-five pounds).
Using wrists, hands, and fingers for repeated and intricate motions. Frequently standing, bending, and stooping often and for prolonged periods.
Working for prolonged periods with arms overhead. Hauling tools and equipment up to and / or in excess of fifty pounds up and down ladders and stairs.
Environmental : Working with high voltage equipment such as rotating machinery, circuit breakers, and power distribution systems.
Working around both electric and mechanical safety hazards. Occasional exposure to fumes and odors. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.
May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
