Reporting to the Division Chief of Critical Care in the Department of Anesthesiology, the PA will evaluate and treat patients with surgical and medical problems;
and other related duties.
The PA will provide inpatient coverage in the following units at the Montefiore Hospital Moses Campus : the post anesthesia critical care unit, step down unit, and surgical intensive care unit.
The PA will be supervised by the appropriate attending physician and join a team of academic intensivists, step down hospitalists, and residents and fellows from the Departments of Anesthesia, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care.
The practice of a physician assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician.
- Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations;
- ordering and / or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan;
monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals.
Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and / or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates.
An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available.
The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other institution settings.
In addition to the core skills listed here, PAs, will request validation to perform department specific skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE :
- Graduate of an accredited Physician’s Assistant program.
- Registered as a Physician’s Assistant in New York State.
- NCCPA certified
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Physician Assistant certification program or 1-2 years of Surgical patient preferred.
