Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Finance the Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting with all aspects of federal, state, and charitable grants accounting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Essential Performance Requirements*

  • Performs a variety of advanced technical and paraprofessional accounting duties in support of assigned grants
  • Prepares a variety of detailed financial, accounting, budgetary, and statistical statements, analyses, documents, and reports in support of assigned grants
  • Gathers and organizes data; reviews and analyzes financial statements for balance and budget variance accuracy
  • Audits, analyzes, and reconciles a variety of accounting, financial, budgetary, and statistical records in support of assigned accounts;

identifies and resolves discrepancies and corrects errors; forwards claims and reports to appropriate signatories

  • Prepares journal entries and inter-fund transfers in support of assigned grants
  • Assists in the allocations, tracking, and reconciliation of grant-funded budgets
  • Ensures adherence to grant contracts and guidelines and monitors for compliance with College and funding agency policies;

coordinates desk reviews

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports for college, state, local, and federal funding sources in accordance with specific reporting formats and established accounting principles
  • Maintains grant accounts receivable file; requests payments by preparing and processing invoices; posts and deposits monies according to College procedures
  • Participates in year-end closing activities in support of assigned grants; prepares year end closing entries to facilitate a clean audit, and prepares required year-end financial reports
  • Assists in controlling operations of various segments of the accounting system; assists staff in implementing and completing a variety of computer data entries;

provides instruction, guidance, and assistance on budgeting and accounting procedures to College staff

Service Excellence

  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision Works under the general supervision of the Director of Finance

Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • Current Certified Public Accountant
  • At least one (1) year’s experience working in higher education with grant funding

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of financial statement accounting
  • Knowledge of fund accounting
  • Knowledge of restricted funds and grant management
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
  • Skilled in using computerized accounting applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization
