Lincoln University Position Description Job Title : Adjunct Professor Classification : Faculty Division : Academic Affairs Department : Sociology & Criminal Justice Reports : Chair of Sociology & Criminal Justice FLSA Status : Salaried, Exempt JOB SUMMARY : Conducts University courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible for teaching during the fall and spring semesters.
- Responsible for teaching Intro to Sociology in the fall and spring semesters.
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
- Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- Stimulates class discussion.
- Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
- All other relevant duties as assigned.
EDUCATION :
Master’s required, Ph.D. preferred.
EXPERIENCE :
A minimum of two years teaching experience in a higher education setting.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to make decisions supporting the department’s mission and goals.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality.
- Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
- Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.
- Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work.
Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions : protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse;
ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
