Position Overview
The Field Service Technician (FST) provides professional service by performing all field service functions. The FST is responsible for meeting the installation, startup, preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting per requirements of the customers.
Establishes and maintains proper business relationships with customers and peers as well as performing on time reporting and other duties as assigned.
The FST also supports customer service and sales team in technical assistance, equipment choice, demonstrations, and appropriate follow-up.
Job Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair on designated packaging equipment.
- Ordering and managing repair parts for car stock.
- Maintaining communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up.
- Maintaining tools and test equipment and ensuring they are properly calibrated and ensure all tools and parts are kept safe and secure.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and establish customer trust and confidence. Build customer relationship in a professional manner through solution-oriented communication and service both on-site and phone support.
- Identify and participate in sales opportunities such as Maintenance plans, retrofits, spare parts kits, or replacement equipment to customers as warranted, work with team to identify sales opportunities.
- Provide service reports, service and parts quotes, tech stock inventory, and expense reports to service manager on all activities and complete in a timely manner.
- Properly document, label, and return all defective parts resulting from repair.
- Assist the parts department with recommended spare parts and wear parts to existing and new customers
- Assists customer service in answering technical matters / questions
- Must possess computer competency, and be proficient in Microsoft Excel,
- PLC and electrical competency is required. Appropriate training will be provided where needed
- Work closely with the Service Manager and service coordinator to ensure site work is carried out in the required order, for completion by the required timeline
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures at all times. Develop and maintain safe habits and practices with regard to safety requirements on site.
- Basic understanding of Stretch and Shrink films.
- Perform film audits and be able to identify film issues.
- Work as a member of the local team to provide efficient service to all accounts
- The ability to lift and carry a toolbox that can weigh up to 50 lbs.
- Read electrical and mechanical schematics and other documentation to prepare for assigned service calls, installations, and customer training.
- Provide technical support to other Field Service Specialist in the field
- Must be self-motivated with ability to work & think well independently
- Complete and pass all factory certification courses as dictated by the Field Service Training Program.
- Ability to travel as needed within the United States.
The ideal candidate will have :
Two (2) to Four (4) years’ experience in the same / related field or an equivalent combination of education (associate degree in a technical field) and experience.
Must be efficient in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical components on a variety of industrial packaging equipment
A desire to learn, practice, and deliver a quality customer service.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience in repair or packaging field products is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral skills preferred.
- Strong time management skills and organization skills a plus.
- Electrical or pneumatic certifications, or aptitude. Mechanical, and equipment programming training, PLC and / or military background is a plus.
- Experience in repair or packaging field products is a plus.
- Must maintain valid Driver’s License and good driving record
- Ability to drive a forklift.
- Must be able to use a computer for creation of reports and data entry required.
- Must be able to use a smartphone and any related applications required for the job or timekeeping.
- Flexibility to travel
- Must maintain valid passport to take advantage of Factory & Service Training.
