Main responsibilities :

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Scientist, Virology will be to support COVID vaccine projects by establishing a SARS-CoV-2 pseudoviral production lab.

Ensure the generation of materials meets the quality requirements and is suitable for neutralization assays. Optimize and develop additional pseudovirus capability as needed by the project and other departments in the organization.

This position provides key contributions to established vaccine systems as well as supporting new technologies in vaccine progression.

S / he / they is an accomplished Virologist and actively takes part in training junior staff and providing experimental strategy to senior team members.

  • Scientific support licensed vaccines and novel vaccine portfolio progression (75%) :
  • Independently plan, design, and execute experimentation within the scope of the projects to meet program objectives and demonstrate a willingness to implement new technologies and protocols as needed.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency with the ability to problem solve in a broad array of experimental protocols.
  • Present concise scientific presentations in line with project objectives.
  • Guarantee the quality of data generation and documentation required for the project.
  • Generate and manage external contracts with CROs and academic partners.
  • Support efficient collaboration and alignment with other groups and functions to maximize value added.
  • Local Subject Matter Expert : Develops and Provides Scientific Expertise (15%) :
  • Contribute to innovation and cross-functional and / or external collaborations.
  • Act as a catalyst to promote scientific visibility on technological aspects (publications, communications at conferences).
  • Communicate efficiently project progression to upper management as needed.
  • Foster training and mentoring of junior staff members.
  • Communication (5%) :
  • Ensure regular communication with the main clients : definition of the needs, harmonization of methods, efficient transfer of assets.
  • Communicate their own research results and those of the team / sub-team at internal meetings.
  • Keep up to date with scientific, development, and business aspects related to the portfolio.
  • Ensure efficient reporting of Unit activities.
  • Report any delays or technical issues in team / sub-team(s) to Operational Management and propose solutions / scenarios to mitigate project impacts.
  • HSE / Quality Responsibilities (5%) :
  • Actively participate in training.
  • Comply with company safety policies and HSE to minimize risk to self, others, and the environment.
  • Identify and help improve best practices in HSE operations.
  • Document all work appropriately in electronic tools following required quality systems.
  • Manage laboratory support activities such as maintaining equipment under GLP quality standards and ordering lab supplies.
  • Respond promptly to all health and safety concerns or incidents and complete the appropriate documentation in a timely manner.

About You

Experience : Previous experience working in the industry, preferably in vaccinology or equivalent discipline.

Skills :

  • Extensive hands-on expertise in Virological techniques : virus amplification, titration assay, virus-like particle generation / characterization, pseudovirus generation / characterization, and neutralization assays.
  • Molecular Biology applications : PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, Sequencing analysis.
  • Ability and willingness to train others on cross-functional assays as well as develop new methodologies as needed.
  • Cell culture aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with automated or semi-automatic platforms in assay use is a plus.
  • Experience in working in a regulated environment with quality systems and knowledge of ISO or GLP quality standards.
  • Hands-on experience with scientific software for advanced data analytics and visualization is a plus : Geneious, SnapGene, Prism, Tableau, or Sequencher.
  • Experience working in an agile and fast-paced environment.
  • Displays a high degree of integrity, decides and acts in the best interest of the Company.
  • Proficient interpersonal, communication, presentation, good record keeping, and attention to detail.
  • Resourcefulness : ability to find tactical solutions to challenges.
  • Strongly results-oriented and data-driven, with a track record of delivery against challenging viral vaccine targets with aggressive timelines.
  • Performance-oriented with the ability to deliver against extremely aggressive timelines.

Education : PhD : +3 yrs; MSc : +5 yrs; BSc : +8 yrs in Virology or related field.
