UH Lakewood Medical Center is located between Kansas City and Lee's Summit, Missouri, offering residents of Eastern Jackson County access to a modern community hospital with a continuum of outpatient services designed to meet the needs of families.

UH Lakewood specializes in high-risk maternal and child care, and serves as one of the few Kansas City metro area institutions accredited by The Joint Commission in Orthopedics and Palliative Care.

It also is home to a 188-bed, fully accredited long-term care center.

UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area's largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. The Crossroads Building , located in Kansas City's vibrant Crossroads Arts District, is its epicenter, providing a broad list of outpatient services.

We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations.

Job Description

Plans and implements Recreation, Music, Art and / or Dance and Movement Therapy interventions within facility to enhance physical, cognitive, social and affective development and to facilitate daily living and community functioning skills;

may participate in the supervision of Expressive Therapy students independently with limited supervision

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from college program with major in Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy or Dance and Movement Therapy.
  • Must have current certification or registry in Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or Dance and Movement Therapy or obtain required certification or registry within 6 months of hire date to maintain employment.
  • Verbal communication skills required to lead Expressive Therapy.
  • Written communication skills required to complete required documentation.
  • Possess, or obtain within 60 days, BCLS or HeartSaver certification, and maintain current certification as a requirement for continued employment.
  • For Inpatient Mental Health Services, must obtain CPI training if employed in BHAC and Community Safety / Verbal De-escalation if employed in Outpatient program within 90 days of hire and maintain training during employment.

Preferred Requirements

One year experience in Artistic Expressive Therapy
