Division / Department Information

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is one of four academic departments in The School of Education at St. John’s University.

Its educator preparation programs lead to the Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Science in Education degrees.

The department also houses the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Curriculum and Instruction. It imparts a values-based philosophy that promotes service, integrity, compassion, and diversity, and it supports The School of Education’s mission to prepare professionals and scholars who advocate for equitable, ethical education.

Responsibilities

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks a scholar to join our faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a start date of September 1, 2024, or January 1, 2025.

The responsibilities associated with the position include :

Teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level (including doctorate) courses with an emphasis on mixed methods, qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

Specializations with advanced research methods / strategies are preferred, but not required.

  • Demonstrating an interest and willingness to support the University’s efforts to explore and integrate innovative teaching and research methods using Artificial Intelligence (AI) at all levels.
  • Serving as a methodological resource and partner to students and colleagues, participating actively in local, state, and national professional organizations that contribute to the mission of the university and standard of excellence common to The School of Education.
  • Maintaining an active research agenda.
  • Serving on department, school, and university committees.
  • Participating in program development and assessment.
  • Advising students.
  • Seeking external grant funding.
  • Engaging in service to the program, school, university, and profession.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess :

  • An earned doctorate in Education or a related field (before the start date). Applicants who expect to earn their doctorates in Spring 2025 will also receive consideration.
  • Experience teaching research methods at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, and mentoring students with quantitative and mixed-method designs.
  • Evidence of expertise in research methodologies drawing on forms of qualitative, quantitative, and / or mixed methodologies.

Additionally, we seek applicants with a scholar-practitioner-community orientation and professional experience in human development.

  • Experience utilizing digital tools of the field to support research methodologies.
  • Specializations with advanced research methods / strategies are preferred, but not required.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual / hourly salary range for this position is $72,500 - $76,000. St.
