Program Associate, Gender and Reproductive Equity Grantmaking

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Associate (PA) is a member of the Gender and Reproductive Equity (GRE) team, and will be based in Schusterman’s Washington, DC or New York, NY offices.

The PA supports the GRE team to develop, implement and assess grantmaking strategies that increase women’s and gender non-conforming people’s : 1) political power and leadership;

2) knowledge, freedom, and power to determine their reproductive lives; 3) economic power; and 4) freedom from sexual harassment and violence.

The PA will also play an essential role in the administration and coordination of the GRE team, supporting logistics, scheduling, and more.

The PA understands how intersecting forms of oppression and discrimination shape gender and reproductive equity and is committed to building the power of Black, Indigenous and People of Color movements to respond.

This role is an excellent fit for someone with some background in our issue areas who is seeking to learn more about philanthropy, the diverse fields and organizations the GRE team funds, and current challenges and strategies of the movements we support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supporting GRE Grantmaking (60%)

  • Conducting due diligence, landscape scans and research on prospective grantees and other gender equity organizations.
  • Staying well-informed of developments in the field through literature review, research, networking and representing the organization at external meetings.
  • Reviewing and synthesizing application and reporting materials into clear, concise, and insightful funding recommendations and reports.
  • Collecting, monitoring, and analyzing information on grantee progress and sharing with the GRE team.
  • Drafting internal team updates to share with the broader organization.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with grantee partners, other Schusterman teams, and peers in the philanthropic sector.
  • Proactively contribute to advancing GRE’s commitment to racial and gender equity in grantmaking practices, high caliber work that drives high impact in the field, and taking risks and being bold.

Supporting Team Coordination (40%)

  • Assisting with team scheduling and planning.
  • Supporting team event planning, particularly logistics of bi-annual team retreats.
  • Managing continual review and refinement of GRE team processes and systems.
  • Promoting Schusterman’s values of collaboration, humility, equity, impact and optimism and a culture of trust, excellence and risk-taking on our team.
  • Carrying out special projects, as requested by the team, that enhance the quality of collaboration across the GRE team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 5 years of experience working within a foundation, gender equity community organization, academic institution, or other relevant organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience.
  • Familiarity with local and national gender, reproductive, or racial equity organizations preferred.
  • A critical thinker who can synthesize large amounts of information, ask probing questions, conduct thoughtful analysis, and craft clear, convincing, and incisive arguments.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a flexible attitude towards shifts in priorities or tasks.
  • Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality with regard to matters of the organization.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically.

COMPENSATION

This role features a competitive hiring range of $80,000 - $92,500 based on experience and Schusterman’s commitment to internal equity.

A strong benefits package is also offered. Schusterman encourages ongoing professional development and supports activities aligned with one’s individual career growth plan.

Schusterman will not cover relocation expenses for this position.
