How You'll Make a Difference :

The Arkos Health Payroll Director will be responsible for all aspects of payroll processing operations using a PEO, including establishing and overseeing payroll processes and procedures for routine processing, tax reporting and internal financial requirements.

The Payroll Director will design short-term and long-term strategies to achieve continuous improvement and efficiencies in payroll processing and delivery operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with leading / operating non-payroll expense reimbursement application and program, high utilization daily mileage program, and other fringe compensation programs.

The Payroll Director will stay apprised of payroll laws and regulations and develops implementation plans for required changes to operations.

This is a remote position. We are seeking remote applicants, preferably in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, or any state except California, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Massachusetts and Washington.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Leadership and Direction : Overseeing the entire payroll process to ensure all steps are completed accurately and on time.

Providing training, support, encourage development and monitor performance. Process payroll, when necessary, to ensure deadlines are met and team is supported.

  • Compliance : Ensures the department keeps accurate payroll documentation and records, adheres with company policies, labor laws, and taxation regulations related to payroll.
  • Perform regular audits to verify compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws. Monitors wage and hour regulations and facilitates discussions with finance and HR leadership to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain state SUTA, WC, and other accounts currently processed through Justworks
  • Review and ensure best pricing for payroll platforms (FYLE, Justworks, TSheets, Company Mileage) and ensure are effectively maintained
  • Build out Payroll Hub page as a resource for employees, managers, and payroll team.
  • Policy Development : Conduct thorough research on federal and state payroll laws, including regulations on taxes, wages, benefits, and deductions.

Develop clear and comprehensive payroll policies that align with legal requirements and organizational objectives.

  • Policy Implementation and Training : Provide training sessions or resources to educate managers and payroll staff on new or updated policies, legal requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Continuous Improvement : Continually evaluate payroll processes and identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.

Maintain KPI data. Assist in automating the payroll process, improve payroll software, and rectify any payroll issues.

  • Problem-solving : Addressing any discrepancies or issues that arise during payroll processing.
  • Communication : Coordinating with HR staff, finance department, and employees to resolve payroll-related queries. Develop and maintain consistent communication in regard to payroll information and changes to leadership / stakeholders and employees.
  • Reporting : Generating and Reviewing payroll reports and summaries for internal audits or external requests, as approved by the Controller and SVP of Finance.

Assigns and maintains GL mapping data in the HRIS and accounting systems

Qualifications and Skills :

  • Minimum Bachelor's from accredited university / college in Accounting, Finance, or Payroll related field
  • Minimum of 10 years National Payroll leadership experience
  • Professional certification in payroll management preferred
  • Strong multi-state tax and payroll compliance knowledge
  • Experience using web-based, direct deposit payroll software
  • Expert Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong ability to self-manage time to manage multiple payroll projects and priorities in a fast-paced, high volume, multi-entity organization environment
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and analyzing complex problems and finding solutions
