DescriptionJOB SUMMARY : This is a responsible non-supervisory position. Incumbent performs all duties within guidelines provided by OperationsDirector and other policies and procedures, such as the Authorized Driver Handbook.

  • Primary duties include operatingand maintaining transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and client courtesy; performing daily pre-trip and post trip vehicle inspections;
  • performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary; fueling the vehicles; ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported;
  • documenting client usage; preparing trip reports; preparing accident and incident reports as necessary; assisting client in and out of the vehicle as needed;

providing safety briefing to clients; and providing other services as requested by management when not engaged intransportation service.

I. DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES Operates assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner; Maintains defensive driving; Provides a communication link between clients and staff, and between program where clients reside andprogram to which client is being transported including relaying information, delivering paperwork, etc.

  • Assists clients, in and out of the vehicle as necessary; operates ramps, lifts and securement devices as needed; Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for clients or asinstructed by supervisor, and reads and interprets road signs in English;
  • Presents safety briefing to passengers prior to each trip departure; Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside;
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, client transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuelpurchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested bymanagement;
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required; Fuels the assigned vehicle(s); Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimizeservice interruptions;
  • Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers; May provide (if instructed by supervisor) clients with peer counseling;

Serves as a positive role model while providing transportation service. Attends all required training, including any assigned safety and safe driver coursesUNIT COUNSELOR RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for helping to meet the program needs of residents and developing the spirit, values and culture ofthe Neighborhoods.

Driver / Unit Counselor, November 2020 Responsible for all communication to residents regarding program processes and activities.

Provide social support to residents, including verbal assistance to help residents to help themselves with regardto day-to-day life in the residence and efforts to get and keep housing and employment.

Provide residents on both a group and an individual basis with transportation for housing placement, serviceappointments, recreational, or other service plan related purposes as appropriate.

Assists with meal-related activities such as warming-up food as required, serving it and performing clean-upactivities. Document neighborhood activities and interactions with residents as directed.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL SHELTER POSITIONS Participate in management and supervision meetings. Comply and promote compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and agency policies helping to strengthenand maintain an ethical organizational culture.

Participate in required trainings. Immediately reports serious incidents, allegations of abuse, incidents, or sensitive situations and completes incidentreports in accordance with agency policy.

Performs other job related duties that may be assigned.ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of the vehicle in question.

Knowledge of the nature of cargo carried (if any) and any special handling required. Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures.

Ability in the operation of motor vehicles as required. Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes and other cargo onto and off of transport vehicles if necessary.

Effective problem-solving and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively and respectfully with residents, co-workers, community and supervisors Ability to work as a member of a team Ability to report to work consistently and on time Ability to maintain self-control in crisis situationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School diploma or GED.

Candidates must possess a clean New York State driver’s license appropriate forthe type of vehicle to be operated. Candidates may be required to possess the appropriate level CDL Class A,B, C or General Class D license.

Maintenance of a clean valid NYS driver’s license is a requirement forcontinuing employment. Some human services experience desirable.
