JOB SUMMARY :
The Chief Inspector is responsible for the operation of the Quality Control Department and the inspectors assigned to that department
REPORTS TO :
The Chief Inspector reports directly to the Director of Quality.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Directs and oversees the client Quality Inspector department and supervisory staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Follow all Federal, Airside MRO, and OSHA regulations where applicable.
- Conducts visual and dimensional tests to ensure quality of finished products.
- Determines and uses appropriate inspection processes to confirm assigned products and parts meet specifications.
- Confirms and approves quality of finished parts.
- Determines whether parts not meeting specifications can be salvaged.
- Documents measured results of machining operations.
- Prepares paperwork and reports documenting inspection findings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALITY CONTROL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Oversee AIRSIDE’s capabilities list per approved OP-Spec Ratings (perform evaluations on incoming new articles)
- Ability to research all technical data needed for items not yet on AIRSIDE’s capabilities list alongside the Chief Inspector
- Train / mentor new inspectors in the Quality Control Department
- Assist the Chief Inspector on performing warranty inspections / dispositions
- Ensure mechanics are performing maintenance per proper OEM tech data and AIRSIDE’s RSQCM, CASE, and EASA manuals.
- Ensure all special tooling is available to perform maintenance.
- Able to perform the following inspections :
- Incoming / preliminary articles received from customers for maintenance
- In-process during various processes of maintenance
- Receiving articles received from AIRSIDE’s vendors after a special process
- Receiving articles / raw materials received in stores department
- Final after completion of work scope
- Return-to-service returning articles to service with FAA 8130-3
- Familiar with procedures as written in FAA Order 8130.21 and any revisions thereof
- Familiar with procedures of component maintenance :
- Structural Repair Manuals
- Component Maintenance Manuals
- Aircraft / Component Drawings
- Standard Practices Manuals / SOPM’s
- Composite Material procedures
Requirements :
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES :
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train staff.
- Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodologies.
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing and production in the industry.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Extensive knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques and equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of machining and machining processes.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word or similar software to prepare reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of experience as a quality control inspector preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Must be able to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and spaces
- Must be able to perform work on scaffolding or ladders
- Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds at a time
- Manual dexterity and physical strength necessary to operate tools or make adjustments and repairs
- Must have visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects
