Program Information

The DC internship program is designed to give undergraduate students, graduate students, and young professionals the opportunity to virtually serve IJM's Global Center.

Interns participate in the ongoing work of protecting the rights of those subject to violent forms of oppression and human rights abuses.

IJM internships offer a unique opportunity for professional development and spiritual growth. The program benefits those who plan to pursue various career paths, including public relations, law, Christian ministry, law enforcement, public policy, business, social work or general non-profit or international work.

The program offers interns an opportunity to investigate their individual gifts and develop new skills while working at IJM's corporate headquarters.

For many interns, the DC internship is a strategic step prior to attending graduate school or beginning a career. The positions are open to college and graduate students, recent college graduates, and young professionals in career transition.

IJM’s Global Programs division is activating global agents of change to move local governments to protect the poor from violence, as well as designing strategies to accompany governments and key actors in the work of justice.

The team mobilizes key centers of global power to provide the resources and influence necessary for the transformation of local justice systems, engaging with corporations, international organizations, the global church, and transnational governmental organizations.

Asone of the Global Programs interns, you will leverage your expertise to ensure IJM accomplishes the goal of protecting the poor from violence.

Although tasks may vary depending on the internship and the work in progress at the time, some tasks may include :

Positions Available :

Grants Partnerships Intern : Supporting grant lifecycle processes, including administrative duties, job aids, potential proposal development;

supporting grants training and resource development, such as virtual training support, creating new training documents, etc.

researching training / content ideas; creating capacity building tools and editing existing material; working within the CRM to update grants data

Data Science Intern : Primary responsibilities would include consulting with program subject matter experts to understand where data can provide opportunities for impact, conducting data analysis to identify trends and answer data queries, and convey data insights via data products and / or visualization.

Additional duties may include data wrangling from multiple internal and external data sources, data cleaning, and data quality assessments.

Looking for programming skills for data analysis (e.g. python, R, spark) and data related tool experience (e.g. Tableau, Azure, PowerBI).

Research Intern : Explore procedures for archival of research data sets

Develop a taxonomy of legal contexts of Data storage in different countries where IJM operates. Experience with data management and / or monitoring and evaluation preferred.

  • Global Survivor Network Intern : This role is largely administrative and project based, with some need for writing skills to draft content for website, providing support as the GSN collaborates with teams across International Justice Mission’s global offices, to ensure survivor leaders are effectively prepared for speaking opportunities across the globe and to scale up the work of the Global Survivor Network around the world
  • Global Programs Project Management Intern : Serve as an adjunct to the nimble and multi-faceted Operations and Portfolio Management team supporting the key initiatives of the division and ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

Support communications between the Global Programs division and other parts of IJM, especially field programs. The role can range from basic administrative support to newsletter publication to project management, depending on the skills and interests of the intern.

Global Innovation & Design Center Intern : Help IJM’s Innovation, Human-Centered Design, Program Management, and Partnerships Team transform the way we do our work! As part of this internship, you will help us assess better ways to design and innovate ways to end violence with survivors, governments, and our partners, improve our efforts to be inclusive in interventions, and touch much of what our teams are doing innovatively on a day-to-day basis all around the world.

Preferred skills : Research, Writing, MS Office and SharePoint, Graphic Design, Knowledge of Human Centered Design and / or Design Thinking, Ability to work across many different cultures, Ability to multi-task, Strong time management, Self-starter (lots of independent work with a team working remotely and many different hours to accommodate program team time zones).

Partner Portal Intern : Help IJM’s Innovation Team design inclusive data management systems using Human-Centered Design.

As part of this internship, you will help us assess better ways to design and innovate our partner data collaboration platform interacting with IJM staff and external partners all around the world.

Preferred skills : Qualitative Research, Prototyping and wireframe development in Figma, Graphic Design, Knowledge of Human Centered Design and / or Design Thinking, Ability to work across many different cultures, Ability to multi-task, Strong time management, Self-starter (lots of independent work with a team working remotely and many different hours to accommodate program team time zones)

ILED (Investigations and Law Enforcement Development) Fellow : Preferred skills would be having been an investigator, detective, or crime analyst.

5 years experience at least.

  • Criminal Intelligence Fellow : Support Global Fusion Center initiatives by assisting with the collection of open source media information related to IJM programming, LE training support, help create / evaluate capacity building tools, assist with News Letter, conduct research in support of pilot project, and other duties as required.
  • Corporate Partnership Intern : IJM collaborates with stakeholders to help protect people in poverty from violence. The corporate sector is one of our key partners.

We invite interested interns to help us develop creative and informative materials that distill our programs in a way that is simple and clear to our corporate partners.

Interns may also attend meetings alongside with IJM team with corporations, and will have the opportunity to learn insights from them.

Analytical skills, corporate experience (Must), designing PowerPoint presentation, graphic design, writing skills (ability to simplify an existing program content into a language that resonates with a general audience;

willing to take meeting notes), interpersonal and multi-cultural engagement skills, willing to work with different time zones.

IJM's Internship opportunities vary every session and look different in every office. Interns generally will assist a specific person or team.

The positions involve the described tasks and responsibilities as well as other relevant duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.

General Qualifications and Required Skills

Bachelor's degree must be completed or in progress for this internship and applicants need to have completed at leasttwoyears of undergraduate study.
