Job Title : Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty : 2E Medical Surgical (Med Surg) Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour nights, weekends as scheduled Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum of 2 years License : Yes, willing to wait Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have : Comfortable working with both 'clean' and 'dirty' patients, including any COVID patients Job Description : - Work in a 29-bed, all-private MedSurg unit, which includes sections referred to as 2N & 2S.
Responsible for patient care with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 6-7.- Collaborate with a clinical manager who acts as both charge nurse and nurse manager;
they only take patients if the census is greater than 24.- Nights have a resource nurse who takes a full patient assignment.
- No Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are available during night shifts.- Work every other weekend (EOW); weekend shifts include Saturday and Sunday.
- Required to work 2 Fridays per schedule; often grouped with weekend shifts.- Participate in the permanent staff holiday rotation.
- Navy blue scrubs are required; jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue.- Care for patients on remote telemetry monitored by a monitor technician on the third floor.
- Capable of managing patients with Bipap, Cpap, High Flow Oxygen therapy managed by Respiratory Therapy.- Administer Heparin and possibly MSO4 for comfort measures;
no cardiac drips involved.- Self-scheduling and blocked schedules allowed, as long as unit needs are met.- One shift dedicated to floor-specific orientation with a preceptor.
- Common patient diagnoses and types include MedSurg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end of life, and chemo (low volume for inpatient chemo).
- Could be assigned to both 'clean' and 'dirty' patients (including COVID-19 patients) simultaneously. Additional Information : - The charting system used is Cerner Corporation - PowerChart 2012.
01.20.- This position does not require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).- There is flexibility with floating, though it would only be to other MedSurg units within the facility.
