We are seeking a Student Career Counselor who will coach students and alumni in career planning at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center ("HNC") and is also the primary manager of SAIS's relationships with employers in the Asia-Pacific region.

HNC is a partnership between Johns Hopkins University and Nanjing University and the third site of SAIS's global reach alongside the Washington and Bologna campuses.

The primary career development manager for students at HNC,

Coach SAIS or HNC students in all aspects of their professional development, including clarification of career goals, providing current information on specific career fields and employment trends, developing effective documents (e.

g. resumes, cover letters) and advising on conducting effective employment searches.

  • Coaching in person or remotely SAIS DC and SAIS Europe students interested in professional opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Develop and facilitate scalable workshops on career readiness and job search techniques.
  • Co-sponsor career readiness programming, including the SAIS-wide online professional development course with colleagues in Washington, DC and Bologna, Italy.
  • Organize employer-facing experiential learning activities, and virtual and in-person career treks for students.
  • Collect relevant employer and internship data and assist with the collection of data for tracking students' employment outcomes.
  • Facilitate and host visits by careers-related speakers to HNC.
  • Coordinate complementary career services support offered with Chinese colleagues at HNC and Nanjing University.

As the primary multi-campus SAIS employer relationship manager for a portfolio of SAIS / HNC preferred employers for the Asia Pacific Region,

  • Actively foster and maintain relationships with sector / region-specific employers, alumni, and professional associations, with whom Global Careers has an established relationship.
  • Assist in the identification of new employer contacts for the purposes of developing and maintaining sector / region-specific knowledge and fostering potential job and internship prospects, and employer-facing experiential learning.
  • Organize resume collections and on-campus presentations alongside employer partners.

Work Modality

  • This position supports both the HNC and SAIS Global Careers roughly equally throughout a typical year, though the seasonal cycle shifts the proportion of duties between them from time to time.
  • This position occasionally will work at mutually agreed-upon times outside of normal work hours due to the time difference among the SAIS campuses in Washington, Nanjing, and Bologna, and may require work on evenings and on weekends as necessary.
  • The position reports primarily to the American Co-Director of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center and secondarily to the Assistant Dean for Global Careers in Washington, DC.
  • This position requires extended travel to Nanjing, China, for significant parts of the semester, but presence in China must be cumulatively less than 183 days per year in total and China will not be considered the tax home.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Computer and standard office equipment is used on a daily basis.
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and quickly learn other programs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Three years' experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience in student services, preferably in higher education or in a related employer human resource area.
  • Three or more years of experience in career advising / coaching, programming, and student affairs.
  • Significant experience in representing organizational interests to external clients.
  • Significant experience living and working in a bilingual English / Chinese speaking environment.

Starting Salary Range : $55,800 - $97,600 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
