Job Description and Duties

THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) Information Technology Cybersecurity Division has immediate openings for lead Senior Cybersecurity and Fraud Engineers.

This role involves leading and performing highly technical engineering level duties to support security and fraud related issues within the Cybersecurity Operations and Fraud Center.

Key responsibilities include being able to communicate well as a highly technical project lead and mentor, developing technical requirements, designing complex secure systems solutions, developing detection, prevention and response tools, collaborating on security risk assessments and audits, developing and maintaining documentation, complex Linux and Windows security systems configuration and administration, enhancing operations, conducting fraud and forensic investigations, monitoring system capabilities, vulnerability and threat testing, incident response, staff training, and EDD modernization.

The Senior Cybersecurity & Fraud Engineer :

  • Designs, develops, configures, documents, automates, and maintains more complex information security related Linux systems, policies, procedures, and practices supporting EDD's cybersecurity operations & fraud center and modernization activities.
  • Applies cybersecurity operation and fraud detection analysis and countermeasures for potential data and systems threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Actively monitors, analyzes and responds to more complex incidents related to the proper application of privacy protection processes to identify, address and mitigate suspected privacy, disclosure and fraud incidents as well as inappropriate access and breeches of state and federal tax information and personally identifiable information.
  • Ensures EDD cybersecurity operations and fraud center systems, policies, procedures and practices incorporate and comply with applicable federal, state, local, and industry legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.

This position may be eligible for Telework under EDD's Telework policy and is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento at EDD's headquarters office at 800 Capitol Mall, Sacramento.

Employees are required to report to their headquarters office as needed. Expenses related to traveling to and from the assigned headquarters location are not covered by EDD and are the responsibility of the employee.
