Position Summary :
The Columbia Public School District is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach for Battle High School . Through the love of sport we hope to deepen each student’s capacity for character development.

Our athletic / activity programs are here to provide students with a positive competitive experience as an extension to their academic education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for :
Coach students in the game of Softball while also teaching and modeling life skills and character traits needed for success in life beyond the game of Softball.
Assists the head coach in planning, organizing, and coordinating Softball functions.
- Assisting and maintaining the softball program.
- Maintaining positive communication with patrons and parents of athletes and potential athletes.
- Assisting with off-season camps and conditioning programs.
- Encouraging good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport.
- Collaborating with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to Battle High School athletes.
- Ensuring compliance with MSHAA.
- Maintaining statistics on all players.
- Other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships :
Reports To : Head Coach and Athletic Director
Supervises : None
Qualifications :
Certificate : Missouri teaching certificate or Missouri substitute teaching certificate is required; Sport First Aid Course is required
Experience : Prior teaching / coaching experience preferred.
Other : If hired as a coach via a substitute certificate, the individual must satisfactorily complete (make a grade of 80% to pass) a MSHSAA approved coaches education program (NFICEP) before he / she can be hired for a coaching position in any subsequent year.
In addition, all coaches despite certification status must attend a NFICEP first-aid class and pass the exit test given at that time.
Skills and Abilities : An individual who holds this position must have the ability to :
Language
- Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance
- Complete forms and write reports
- Present information effectively and respond to questions
Computation
- Perform basic mathematical functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
Reasoning
- Solve a variety of problems in many different situations
- Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students
Other Skills and Abilities
- Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Technology
- Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
- Use district software for finding student information
- Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district
