Job Title : Patient Financial Coordinator

Location (city, state) : Washington, DC

Compensation : $24.00 - $28.00 / Hourly (Depending on Experience)

Benefits : This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Industry : Healthcare

Work Schedule : Monday–Friday, 9 : 00am–5 : 00pm (earlier schedules, 8 : 00am–4 : 30pm, may be considered; no weekends)

Our client is a leading healthcare organization specializing in transplant services. They are seeking a dedicated Patient Financial Coordinator to join their transplant team. This role is critical to ensuring patients on the transplant waitlist are financially cleared and prepared for procedures.

Job Description :

The Patient Financial Coordinator will focus on financial clearance for patients awaiting kidney transplants. This includes confirming insurance coverage, verifying benefits, obtaining authorizations for inpatient stays, and coordinating with finance and transplant teams to ensure patients are ready from a financial standpoint. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential, as this role directly impacts patient care and transplant readiness.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Communicate with patients on the kidney transplant waitlist to confirm insurance coverage and eligibility.
  • Provide financial counseling to patients with outdated or incomplete insurance information.
  • Obtain authorizations for inpatient stays when organ offers are received.
  • Review and update payer portals with accurate patient demographics, transplant dates, and case details.
  • Monitor the transplant email waitlist to confirm financial readiness and resolve outstanding financial holds.
  • Coordinate with transplant coordinators, finance teams, and insurance representatives to ensure timely clearance.
  • Maintain accurate records of authorizations and insurance updates in patient files.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and strong written and verbal communication skills when assisting patients.
  • Ensure compliance with payer and hospital requirements for transplant approval.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum 2+ years of healthcare experience handling financial clearance and authorizations; inpatient or surgical experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance and financial processes for high-dollar procedures.
  • Experience interacting directly with patients to explain financial obligations and payment plans.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems
  • Strong Excel skills for tracking financial status.
  • Additional Details :

  • Contract position : 5 months.
  • Must comply with all hospital vaccination and flu shot requirements.
  • GED or high school diploma required from a board-verified institution.
