The Pharmacy Technician assists the registered pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of sterile and non-sterile medications, including IV solutions, in conjunction with state and federal laws.
Maintains records and inventory, and follows procedural work routines to ensure medications are ready and available for patient administration.
Required :
- Massachusetts Registration and Certification required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred :
- Hospital pharmacy technician experience is strongly preferred.
- Sterile compounding experience is strongly preferred.
Job Description / Competencies
- Prepares medications and IV solutions for patients using an aseptic technique and ensures patient medications are ready when needed.
- Fills code blue carts and kits according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Refills medications according to refill reports for Automated Dispensing Devices.
- Completes medication area inspections.
- Demonstrates the ability to calculate appropriate dosage for the ages of the patients served.
- Utilizes pharmacy computer systems, including automated dispensing cabinets.
- Demonstrates strong ability to complete tasks within set time frames, and exercises initiative in problem solving to enhance productivity and efficient operation of the department.
- Accepts other assignments as needed to maintain the effective and efficient operation of the pharmacy.
