Job Description

EliteCare Medical Staffing is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for our Labor and Delivery (L D) unit.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in L D nursing, with experience in triage, labor and delivery, recovery, postpartum, and newborn stabilization.

Unit Overview :

• L D Beds : & 4 (separate from postpartum beds)
• Postpartum Beds : & 4
• Births : & 0-4 per day; approximately 40-50 per month; 554 births in 2022
• Triage Capacity : & One L D room utilized for triage
• C-Section Facilities : & C-sections are performed in the main OR; no dedicated OR suites on the L D unit

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum.
• Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-patient ratios.
• Titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, insulin, and TXA as necessary.
• Collaborate with OB / Neonatologists and other healthcare providers; on-call support available.
• Monitor and assess the condition of both mothers and newborns, ensuring proper stabilization and care.
• Document patient information accurately using the Obix documentation system and GE monitors for electronic fetal monitoring.

Qualifications :

• Required Certifications :
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Preferred : AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced EFM, ACLS, Stable
• Experience Requirements :
• Must have experience in triage, labor and delivery, recovery, postpartum care, and newborn stabilization.
• Charge nurse experience is preferred.
• Skills :
• Ability to read telemetry strips; RNs are responsible for their own readings.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.

Team Structure :

• Nursing aids available but not scheduled every day.
• Charge Nurse / House Supervisor will ideally not take an assignment out of staffing.

Additional Information :

• There is no in-house OB / Neonatologist or Anesthesia; both are available on call 24 / 7.
• Respiratory Therapy equipment including Neopuff, CPAP, and Hi-Flow is available for use.
