JOB DESCRIPTION
The Underwriting Manager manages a team of Underwriting Associates for National Accounts Property Risk Management and is accountable for renewal and new business data preparation and analysis used to inform prudent underwriting decisions throughout an account life cycle from submission through policy issuance in accordance with underwriting strategies and guidelines.
Under general management direction, works within broad limits of authority requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines :
1. Manages the work activities, performance and development of Underwriting Associate (UA) staff that support a team of Underwriters.
2. Coaches, leads and develops Underwriting Associates and participates in the development of UAtraining including granting of underwriting authority.
3. Makes recommendations on underwriting policy, process, and workflow to management. Collaborates with stakeholders such as department management, Operations, UW Shared Services for process enhancement and efficiencies.
4. Reviews and manages the application of underwriting policy, analysis to determine acceptability of risk, file documentation, calculation of pricing and preparation of quotes within a team of underwriters’ books of business.
5. Develops business report acumen and prepares and presents operational reports to management.
6. Drives business unit initiatives and business strategies ensuring UAs adhere to role responsibilities, process and workflow expectations.
7. Develops, maintains and cultivates agency and / or broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
8. Keeps current on line of business strategy, shared & layered marketplace trends and business implications, state / territory issues, regulations and trends.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

2. Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skill and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures.

Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
2. Typically a minimum eight years underwriting experience.
