Job Summary :
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide therapeutic care to patients.
The PTA assists in the implementation of treatment plans designed to improve patient mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or reduce physical disabilities.
The role involves working closely with patients, healthcare professionals, and family members to ensure a successful rehabilitation process.
Key Responsibilities :
- Assist in Treatment Implementation :
- Follow treatment plans developed by the Physical Therapist to help patients improve their mobility, strength, and functionality.
- Provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and use of equipment as directed by the Physical Therapist.
- Monitor patient progress during therapy sessions and report changes to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Patient Education and Support :
- Educate patients on exercises and therapeutic activities they can perform at home to enhance recovery.
- Provide guidance and support to patients and their families regarding the rehabilitation process.
- Demonstrate proper use of therapeutic equipment and ensure patients use them safely.
- Documentation and Record Keeping :
- Accurately document patient progress, treatments provided, and any changes in the patient's condition.
- Maintain up-to-date patient records in compliance with legal and healthcare standards.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating therapy sessions.
- Collaboration and Communication :
- Collaborate with the Physical Therapist and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure a cohesive treatment plan.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to patient care discussions.
- Ensure Safety and Compliance :
- Follow all safety protocols to prevent injury to patients and staff during therapy sessions.
- Stay compliant with state regulations, professional standards, and facility policies.
- Maintain certification and stay current with continuing education requirements.
- Equipment and Facility Maintenance :
- Ensure therapy equipment is clean, well-maintained, and functioning properly.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications :
- Education : Associate’s degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Licensure : Current and valid PTA license in the state of employment.
- Experience : Previous experience in a rehabilitation or healthcare setting is preferred, but not required.
- Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Skills :
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Empathy and patience when working with patients of varying abilities.
- Proficiency in using therapeutic equipment and technology.
Working Conditions :
- Work may involve standing, walking, and lifting throughout the day.
- Must be able to assist patients with mobility exercises and transfers.
- May work in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, or home health care.
