About The Position
Job Title : Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - General Surgery - Days Job Specialty : Surgical Technologists Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Day Shift, 3x12 (float to OSC), On call per unit Guaranteed Hours : Not specified Experience : Not specified License : Certified Surgical Technologist preferred or Licensed Practical Nurse Certifications : - National certification required- Basic Life Support (BLS) required Must-Have : Ability to read, write, and speak the English language- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills- Ability to collaborate with other healthcare providers in patient care- Ability to delegate to other team members as required- Strong detail orientation required- Knowledge of surgical procedures required- Basic computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel Job Description : Function under the direction of the registered professional nurse to assist the healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care.
- Perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases and anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other healthcare team members.
- Exhibit acquisition of additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases and demonstrate an efficient, organized surgical plan.
- Prepare the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a safe patient care environment, maintaining sterile field and addressing patient safety concerns.
- Gather required instruments and supplies, serving as a surgical assistant if needed.- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards.
- Assist with inventory, ordering, and stocking surgical areas as assigned.- Participate in setting up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication / solutions in an accurate, prioritized, and timely manner.
- Perform surgical counts and participate in procedure pause / time-out.- Maintain highest standards of sterile technique during procedures.
- Actively participate in post-procedure pause and facilitate OR room preparation for receiving patients.- Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care that adapts to cultural considerations.
- Support evidence-based practice and demonstrate teamwork and collaboration.- Serve as an advocate for patient care and safety.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives focused on quality and safety.- Complete all initial and annual competencies and required education.
- Mentor, precept, or train students and new employees, acting as a resource for new technology or procedures.- Maintain continuing education related to the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring organizational cleanliness and stock maintenance.
