Job Description :
The Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN / LVN) provides care to critically ill patients, monitoring their vital signs, administering medications, and offering support as needed.
The LPN / LVN may monitor patient’s bedside or remotely from a central location. This role requires proficiency in patient assessment, medication management, and life-saving techniques.
Key Responsibilities :
- Monitor heart rates, breathing, blood pressure, and oxygen levels using monitoring devices.
- Provide bedside or remote monitoring and administer medications as needed.
- Perform dysrhythmia monitoring, interpretation, and treatment.
- Calculate medication dosages and monitor effects, including administering continuous non-titrated medication infusions (e.
g., vasoactive agents, anti-arrhythmic agents, platelet inhibitors, insulin).
- Monitor patients during pre-, intra-, and post-procedures (e.g., TEE, cardiac catheterization with PCI, cardioversion, bronchoscopy, EGD, PEG placement, chest tube insertion).
- Recognize cardiopulmonary emergencies and initiate interventions to stabilize patients awaiting transfer to critical care.
- Set up and troubleshoot hemodynamic monitoring equipment, recognizing signs of patient instability.
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and communicate findings.
- Assess ventilated patients to ensure proper treatment and response.
- Manage non-invasive oxygen delivery systems, including oral airways, BiPAP, and nasal CPAP.
- Monitor and assist patients on long-term mechanical ventilation, including weaning.
- Oversee renal therapeutic interventions, such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous bladder irrigation.
- Recognize the indications for and manage complications of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
- Support and involve families in patient care to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home.
