What you'll be doing
A Disease Investigation Specialist performs complex disease investigation work for Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) cases in Spokane County.
They monitor and work to ensure that individuals at highest risk receive CDC recommended testing and treatment. They may also need to directly provide initial client transportation to services (transportation of clients is only authorized with the use of a company vehicle.)
Some Essential Functions Include :
- Focus interviews on ensuring correct medical treatment and conducting partner elicitation.
- Conduct intensive community outreach to identify cluster groups associated with the syphilis outbreak. Trains and supports employees to make decisions that consider and address race, poverty, education, and other issues affecting health inequities.
- Provide risk reduction counseling, referrals, treatment follow-up and partner management services to those who test positive.
- Serve as backup for HIV / HCV disease investigations and administers STD Surveillance Network (Ssun) interviews with a subset of cases.

What we need from you
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Three years of related experience.
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license and current auto insurance is required to complete essential functions of the position.
- Must be able to complete appropriate level of phlebotomy training and receive sign-off by health officer to perform venipuncture as a DIS within 6 months of hire.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered provided the individual's background demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Three years of disease investigation or epidemiology.
