Organization Summary

Girls on the Run of North Central West Virginia is a local nonprofit organization that operates in agreement with Girls on the Run International and is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Our program currently serves 12 counties in Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Harrison, Lewis, Taylor, and Barbour Counties.

Since 2007 over 6,100 participants have registered in our program.

The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event.

The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and be open while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle and harness the inner strength that they possess.

Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.

Position Profile

The Girls on the Run® Regional Program Coordinator (RPC) must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades.

The Regional Program Coordinator reports to the Girls on the Run Program Director and is responsible for coordinating Girls on the Run site enrollment, coach, and girl recruitment, and ensuring all GOTR requirements are met within their assigned territory.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Program Outreach and Site Management
  • Execute a comprehensive strategic engagement and retention plan and achieve program goals with respect to number of girls served, number of site locations and demographic requirements.
  • Implement department marketing strategies that result in increasing the number of new sites and enrollees each season based upon established goals.
  • Improve and grow girl and coach retention rates.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, schools, and other groups to maximize the success of Girls on the Run programming.
  • Manage and support the needs of new and existing sites.
  • Enforce current site policies and procedures and generate innovation and improvement as needed.
  • Cultivates relationships with appropriate community leaders, organizations, and businesses to increase visibility of GOTRNCWV in the community.
  • Provides high quality customer service to participant families, school administrators, and volunteers.
  • Collect and manage data and prepare grant report information.
  • Serves as a backup for Coaches.
  • Ensure GOTR is open to all girls and adults by delivering the GOTR message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council.
  • Serve as a team coach within the first two years of employment.
  • Coordinates support services to enable volunteers to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions effectively.

Coach Management and Training

  • Ensure program sites are staffed with trained and qualified volunteer coaches.
  • Ensure current coaching policies and procedures are met and generate continuous improvement.
  • Work with sites to develop effective coach recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Oversee and support the needs of coach volunteers.
  • Implement coach appreciation opportunities as directed.

Curriculum / Equipment Management

  • Report curriculum needs to the Program Director
  • Distribute curriculum materials including coach boxes, coach manuals, healthy snacks, and program equipment.
  • Manage inventory and distribution of coach and program curriculum, materials, and supplies.

Annual 5K

In coordination with the Program Director, assist as needed with the Girls on the Run 5Ks eight components and execution elements that are needed for a successful celebratory 5K event :

  • Recommend fundraising & sponsorships opportunities.
  • Provide input into key decisions (budget & timelines)
  • Communicate local logistics for assigned region.
  • Ensure safety & risk management protocols are followed.
  • Assist with securing and guiding participant registration.
  • Manage volunteers.
  • Provide recommendations for marketing & communications within the assigned territory.
  • Promote a positive participant experience.

Work Environment : This position will require extensive travel throughout the geographic area. It requires access to reliable transportation, sometimes on short notice, and including the ability to transport program materials as needed.

This position offers a flexible work schedule that includes nights and weekends at a variety of locations including camp and outdoors.

The Program Coordinator must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Required Criminal Background Check & Registry Clearances
  • Must complete National Coach Training (NCT)
  • Passion for Girls on the Run mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole person health.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proven success in setting expectations and maintaining accountabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and with a diverse team.
  • Adept at change management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, social media, and ability to learn proprietary software.
  • Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make effective decisions.
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Effective problem solver
  • Experience with non-profit youth or wellness programs and community engagement preferred.
  • Proven ability to make connections within the local community
  • Training and facilitation experience a plus!

This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position offering a compensation range of $16 - $18 per hour, depending on experience.

This position is hybrid, with the flexibility to work from home when not required to be in the community or at the office.

There is mileage reimbursement for travel and a flexible working schedule.
